At Miller & Miller, we believe that early detection is one of the greatest weapons in the fight against tooth decay. Our team uses state-of-the-art technology to effectively identify problems when conservative therapy can correct them. Dental problems like tooth decay, gum disease, oral cancer, and tooth fractures will not heal naturally. Left alone, they will grow into larger problems. Six-month checkups and cleanings are an invaluable part of your oral healthcare. Our checkups include a tooth-by-tooth evaluation, as well as:
Digital X-Rays
In order to learn as much as possible about your oral health, we may take digital X-rays, which emit 80 percent less radiation than standard X-ray machines. On chairside monitors, you can immediately view your X-rays with Dr. Chris or Dr. Matt. He'll discuss with you your concerns and explain treatment options so that you can become an informed participant in your dental care.
Gum Disease Screening
As the leading cause of tooth loss for American adults, gum disease is a stealthy and progressive condition. When plaque and food particles aren't removed from on and between teeth, they foster bacterial growth. These bacteria smell bad and can cause a condition in which gums recede and pull away from teeth. Left untreated, gum disease can cause you to lose your teeth and can create increased risk for stroke, heart attack, dementia, low-weight births, and diabetes complications. Gum disease will also erode gum tissue and bone, leading to serious oral health problems. Regular hygiene visits allow us to remove plaque and food particles from teeth, preserving total health for your teeth and gums. If we find that you have gum disease, we'll recommend appropriate periodontal therapy.
Oral Cancer Screening
We use ViziLite, an advanced oral cancer screening tool that allows us to see harmful cells before they reach the surface. When oral cancer is caught in its earliest phase, before white lesions are visible in the mouth, patients have a much higher survival rate. In fact, there is an 80 to 90percent survival rate when oral cancer is detected early, but there only a 50 percent survival rate when late-stage cancer cells are found.
