If you suffer from headaches, popping and clicking of your jaw, or the inability to fully open your mouth, you should be tested for TMJ disorder, also referred to as temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD). When the joints that hold your jaw to your skull are improperly aligned, muscles and nerves become irritated. Some patients experience teeth grinding, and resulting tooth wear, in addition to other nagging symptoms.
If our examination of your bite reveals TMD, Dr. Chris and Dr. Matt can create a custom bite guard or bite appliance for you to wear at night. Bite guards gently hold your jaw in the correct position, alleviating stress on the joints, muscles, and nerves. If this conservative therapy works for you, symptoms will dissipate. In some cases, Dr. Chris and Dr. Matt refer patients to a TMD specialist for more complex treatment.
Call our Plano dental office to schedule your TMD assessment today. We’ve helped patients from Richardson, Frisco, Carrollton, and surrounding areas claim comfortable oral function with bite guard therapy. Our friendly team will be happy to schedule your appointment with Dr. Chris or Dr. Matt.
